It has become the gold standard for all water penetration resistance testing conducted in the United States in regards to fenestration products such as windows, doors, and skylights. It’s important to note that the AAMA test standard also utilizes the ASTM E test method which details specific test set-up and equipment requirements for the water penetration portion of the test, and the ASTM E test method which details test set-up and equipment requirements for the Air Infiltration portion of the test.
It is primarily used for new aamaa quality control and assurance purposes.
This specification establishes the requirements for field test specimens, apparatus, sampling, test procedures and test reports to be used in verifying the air infiltration resistance performance and water penetration resistance performance of newly installed fenestration products.
Please read our simple purchasing instructions first to ensure a smooth transaction. How is the installation quality? 5502 the window square? See our AAMA page for additional information. There are no previous editions.
AAMA | Field Testing Quality Control
Field testing and forensic leak investigation services are provided nationwide. For window and door manufacturers, the procedure provides a uniform approach for dealing with different code jurisdictions and specific design pressure for each size of fenestration product opening.
Before testing, the window installation is visually observed. These specifications establish the requirements for field test specimens, apparatus, sampling, test procedures and test reports to be used in verifying the air infiltration resistance performance and water penetration resistance performance of installed new windows and sliding glass doors hereafter referred to as “fenestration products”.
A predetermined amount of air leakage is allowable; however, no water leakage is permitted at all. The project architect, manager, or owner specifies the amount and locations of the windows to be tested; this happens either early in the project or at three intervals in the case of large projects: Water leakage uses the same method while spraying the window from outside to observe indoor penetration.
This allows us to not only properly test fenestrations on new construction projects, but also pinpoint the cause of any test failures and provide accurate recommendations to achieve successful testing results. In addition, the AAMA guide provides verbiage that can be directly inserted into project specifications, saving time and effort.

The AAMA can be utilized if the project requires investigative testing. This comparative qama procedure is especially suited for regions where it is desirable to document the performance of each window and exterior door size to meet specific structural design pressure criteria.
Member discount will be reflected after successful login to the Checkout process. If the window installation was completed within 6 months, and there is not a building occupancy permit COthen the AAMA is the right document to use.
American Architectural Manufacturers Association. Normally, if a window fails, the contractor should be prepared for a wider scope of testing. Please contact AAMA for assistance, as needed. Aamma only problem with the verbiage provided is that it is often inserted in a generic format that does not provide details as to the areas, quantity, and specific testing pressures.
AAMA Water Spray Testing
A specified pressure is maintained while any escaping air is measured. SITC utilizes the AAMA when conducting forensic water spray testing on windows, doors, curtain walls, storefronts, slope glazing systems and exterior walls. Then both air and water aamz in that order are determined using a test chamber of constant pressure.
This specification is for quality assurance water penetration testing only. The AAMA was first released in and has had many changes over the years.
